Volunteer with us
Open Door is run almost entirely by volunteers, and we are always looking for enthusiastic people to add to our wonderful team. We welcome everyone, from all walks of life, to get involved - we have a whole range of ways you could help out:
You don't need to offer regular shifts to get involved - we value volunteers from all backgrounds and ages to help with regular shifts or occasional activities, projects or work parties.
We run a volunteer information session each month - an opportunity to come along and discuss what volunteering roles are on offer here at Open Door. You will meet some of our team who can talk you through what goes on at Open Door, and what it's like to volunteer with us, whether you're keen to work in the café, do some gardening, baking, run some classes....there's something for everyone!
There's no need to book - check the next date at What's On, or please contact our Volunteer Coordinator Leonie on [email protected] with any queries or if you'd like to apply to be a volunteer!

Community Garden volunteers needed
Many people are not aware of the beautiful garden that exists at the back of Open Door. It is a perfect place for the community to meet and to engage in a range of activities. There is no other place in town quite like it! It has been created and developed to its current stage largely through the wonderful efforts of our founders Joan and John Fisher; we thank them for all their work to date. We would like to continue to develop the space into a true community asset – a garden for the community, maintained by the community. Therefore, we are now launching an exciting Community Garden Project with the following key purpose:
“Our Community Garden provides space to bring the community together across a range of different activities, sharing the joys of a garden and gardening”. The project will be delivered in a safe and sustainable manner and use the promotional strap line of “Growing together”.
As you see above, it is our intention that the Garden will be maintained by the Community and we are looking for volunteers from the community to help out. We need to put a team of Volunteers together and are planning to have a number of Volunteer Garden Activity Days to get the garden knocked into shape.

"I popped into Open Door for a Qigong class and liked it so much, I decided to become a volunteer. I love helping in the cafe and meeting visitors, artists and other volunteers. They are some of the most interesting and talented people in the area." Sue
