Open Door is a safe and welcoming community space in Berkhamsted, where people enjoy being active, creative and sociable. Although we’re closed to visitors for now (but are hoping to be open again soon!), we're still actively supporting our community.
- We’re providing meals to isolated, elderly and vulnerable people around Berkhamsted – and we need your support. Find out why below.
- Many of our clubs and classes are now available online – from yoga to art groups. Head to the ‘What’s On’ section to find out more.
- We’re sharing your wonderful art in our first ever virtual exhibition, ‘Your World’ – telling the story of your life since lockdown. Make yourself a cuppa and enjoy the online gallery.
- Be part of an exciting textiles project. Led by our amazing volunteer Teri, we're creating a banner depicting much-loved places in Berkhamsted. Get the lowdown on the Get Involved page.
Help us provide meals to those most in need
At the beginning of lockdown, we joined forces with Berko Food for Friends to provide free meals to vulnerable people around Berkhamsted.
Many of those we’re supporting are elderly and isolated. Some are grieving after losing a loved one to coronavirus. A hot meal, delivered with a smile by our volunteers, is a lifeline.
Local supermarkets and organisations have generously provided food and funding, but this will run out at the end of June. Many people have been in touch to ask if they can support this initiative – and right now we really need your help.
Your donations will enable us to carry on providing meals free of charge to those who are most vulnerable. We’re so grateful for anything you can spare in these difficult times. Thank you so much.
“It is so lovely to have a delicious meal delivered by such lovely people. It makes my day and takes away the worry about eating.”
