Open Door recognises the need for websites that are accessible to all user groups, including the disabled. We have implemented a number of accessibility features on this website to make it easier for people with disabilities to use.
Do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or feedback regarding the accessibility of this site, or if you experience any difficulty using it. Please email questions or feedback to [email protected].
Accessibility features on this website:
The following features improve navigation for text only browsers, screen reader users, and users of keyboard navigation.
Style sheets
This site uses cascading style sheets for visual layout. However if your browser or browsing device does not support style sheets at all, or if you prefer to view just text, the use of structured semantic markup ensures that the content of each page is still readable and clearly structured.
Structured markup: Headings and menus
Menus used for navigation are marked up as HTML lists. This ensures that the number of links in the list is read out at the start and it can be skipped easily.
Images
Images used in this site include a descriptive alt attribute. Where we have used a graphic purely as a decorative element we have deliberately included empty alt attributes.
Font sizes
Users may change the font size of each web page to their preference through their browser.
* In Internet Explorer, select View, then Text Size, and then your preferred size.* In Firefox press CTRL + to increase font size and CTRL - to decrease. CTRL 0 will reset sizes to default.
Forms
Labels are used to access form fields, making forms generally easier to use. All forms follow a logical tab sequence.
Tables
Tables are used from time to time to display tabular data, and are correctly structured to allow screen readers to render them properly. Tables are not used for layout on this site.
Colours
We have been mindful of the site's font and background colour combinations.
Links
Linking text has been written to make sense out of context. Where appropriate, links have title attributes which describe the link in greater detail.
Scripting
While JavaScript is used on the site to improve usability, all pages and processes are still accessible and usable if JavaScript is disabled or unavailable.
