Welcome to Open Door!
Open Door is the heart of Berkhamsted – a community and arts space where you can be active, creative and social, whatever your circumstances.
We offer a wide range of activities, from workshops and exhibitions, to volunteering opportunities and other ways to make a difference. Or you can just come and have a cup of tea and a chat!
Tackling social inequality and isolation is at the heart of what we do. We enable everyone to connect and contribute, for their own wellbeing and that of the wider community.

- When restrictions allow, we run a donations café where everyone is welcome.
- While our exhibition space is closed, we're sharing the art of local children to brighten up your day! Follow our Smile online exhibition on Facebook and Instagram, and visit our Exhibitions page for info about how your children can get involved.
- We're currently offering a wide range of online creative and wellbeing classes. Visit our What's on page to find out what fun activities are coming up!
- We're delivering meals to vulnerable and self-isolating people twice a week with Berko Food for Friends. Email us at [email protected] to find out more.
- We host the Community Pantry – a store cupboard in front of our entrance full of food, toiletries and other essentials. Please take what you need in an emergency or if things are tight before pay day. We also welcome any contributions you're able to make. It's open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
- We run a Memory Café for people with dementia and Alzheimer's (and a family member/carer) – an opportunity to take part in crafts and games. While we're unable to be together in person, we're delivering activity bags to everyone who attends. When we're open, it usually runs every Friday, from 10.30am to 12noon. Please email [email protected] for more info.
Can you support our work?
Everything we do is funded by grants and donations. If you’d like to help us support the most vulnerable and isolated people in our community, you can make a one-off or monthly donation. Thank you so much!
"There’s a wonderful energy at Open Door. Tea & cake served with a smile, and such a variety of things to do! This is a real gem in Berkhamsted." Robyn
