Get Involved
Open Door is run almost entirely by volunteers, and we're always looking for enthusiastic people to join our team. Here are some of the ways you can get involved:
  • Working in our community café - welcoming visitors, serving refreshments and helping in the kitchen
  • Baking delicious (nut-free) cakes, tray bakes, scones and biscuits (including gluten- and dairy-free options)
  • Gardening
  • Setting up exhibitions or activities
  • IT and admin support
  • Help with fundraising

We value volunteers from all backgrounds and ages to help with regular shifts or occasional activities. We also welcome support in the form of donations, grants, goods and services.

If you'd like to get involved, please pop in for a chat or Contact us, telling us a little about yourself.

Community textiles project

Be part of an exciting textiles project to celebrate our beautiful town! Led by our amazing volunteer Teri, we're creating a banner depicting much-loved places in Berkhamsted – to be hung in the Town Hall when life returns to normal.

We'd love you to make a 4” x 6” picture featuring one of the scenes below (lots of other landmarks are already in progress). You'll need to leave enough room around it so it can be joined to the other pieces when we put it together.  It can be hand or machine embroidered, with collage.

Just let us know what you pick so we can tick it off the list by emailing comms@opendoorberkhamsted.co.uk. If you don't have the materials you need, we'll send you a pack, free of charge. We can't wait to see what you create!

"I popped into Open Door for a Qigong class and liked it so much, I decided to become a volunteer. I love helping in the cafe and meeting visitors, artists and other volunteers. They are some of the most interesting and talented people in the area." Sue
